Ok people I’ve got some bad news for you all. After a big hype, starting in October, of Winter 2008 releases we are sorry and sad to say we ain’t gonna see nothing much going on this side of Christmas.
Dr Dre- Detox
We firstly had promise of Dr Dre’s album being released in November/December of 2008. However this is looking increasingly unlikely now with no date having been set and him still not greatly in the spotlight. This is going to be such a huge album that we’ll no doubt get a good month or two hype before hand so realistically I think we’re looking at it coming in the first quarter of 2009 now. Considering he started recording it in 2004 and that he is the father of rap, I can’t wait for this to drop!
Eminem- Relapse
Ok, after Amazon.com announced it to have a December 23rd release I am sorry to say that seems unlikely now. Sources, close to the Shady camp, are currently saying that the artist is being a perfectionist and tweaking it so much that is seems unlikely it’ll be released in 2008, but will be out by Spring 2009. This also comes after some of the expected tracks got leaked. One source I’ve seen has announce a February release date along with 50 Cent’s ‘Before I Self Destruct’.
50 Cent- Before I Self Destruct
50 was only heard stating 2 months ago that it was going to be a big December with Em’s, Dre’s and his album all being released that month. He titled it the three headed monster. This however has turned out not to be the case. Currently it seems pretty much set in concrete that he’ll be releasing his album in early February. Wikipedia are saying on the 3rd but this hasn’t been confirmed as of yet.
So there it is, sadly it looks like it’s not going to be a Rap Winter but instead a Crap Winter, in fact only commercial sell outs Soulja Boy (iSouljaboytellem, December 16th) and Akon (Freedom, December 2nd) will be getting released. Or if Brandy is your thing, the RnB princess will be dropping her new album, Human.
Good news however, if you choose to believe it, Busta Rhymes and Jay-Z will both be releasing their albums in the Spring of 2009 as well.
