The Chicago born singer, songwriter and producer named Robert Sylvester Kelly, stage name R.Kelly, was found not guilty on 14 charges of child pornography.
On June 6, 2002, R.Kelly was indicted on 21 counts of having sexual intercourse with an underage girl. This was after a 27 minute sex tape was sent to a Chicago Sun-Times’s music critic in 2002. It appeared to display ‘what was thought’ to be R.Kelly having sexual intercourse with a minor. The minor was thought to have been his goddaughter. She denied these claims.
The verdict, not guilty, was decided after a 3 week court battle, if found guilty he would have been looking at 15 years in prison.
After the verdict was given the Grammy Award Winning artist was taken to a nearby park where a large crowd of fans cheered and celebrated the verdict.
